Escape is a game I created for my Rapid Game Development class where we had 1 week to create a game where the player was trapped in a maze and had to find their way out. There are 3 hidden gems throughout the maze that are acquired through puzzles and dodging traps. Acquiring them all will allow the player to escape the maze and beat the game. This game was heavily inspired by Legend of Zelda style dungeons and puzzles, and I tried to emulate those experiences in this game.
Game Creation Process
Game Design
We were given 1 week to design and submit a fully working bug-free build of a maze game where the player had to find their way out. During my brainstorming phase I was heavily inspired by Legend of Zelda games such as "A Link to The Past" and decided to make a dungeon maze style game similar to Legend of Zelda. I designed and incorporated puzzles similar to ones you might find in Zelda games, like a room that switches the path when you activate a switch, or a room where the lights go out and you have to use a torch to light the path. I used free assets I found online, mostly from Kenney Assets, and scripted the entire project using Unity and C# scripts.
Game Brainstorm Ideas and Concepts
Scripting
I created this project with a variety of rooms with traps and puzzles that the player would have to navigate through to escape with each room posing it's own challenges. Since I was only given a week for this project, I went with very basic player movement and no player animations to save me time to script the puzzle and trap rooms.

As one of my final additions I implemented an Ogre toll that needed to be paid a certain amount of gold so the player could collect the gold key. This was one was purely done for fun.
Ogre Toll Scripting
Project Take-Aways
This was the most fun game to script during the first half of the semester for my Rapid Game Development class. Trying to recreate some of these fun and interesting puzzles I've seen from the Legend of Zelda was super fun to incorporate, and with only a week to work on this I managed to implement a bunch of features. My professor was very happy with this project and kept it as an "example of great work" that he would share for future classes.
